“Automated Commercial Environment” (ACE) has replaced the Trading System (ACS) effective June 15, 2016. It is being operated by the Customs office. The goal a single electronic window to present the requirements established for imports and exports by the US government in the “International Trade Data System (ITDS). The purpose is that all the information concerning imports and exports to flow toward the Government of the United States.
The Executive Order “Streamlining the Export/Import Process for America’s businesses” established by President Obama in February, 2014 requires that this program be in effect as of December 31, 2016 for all agencies involved with the ITDS. It seeks to make it easier for the importers/exporters the provide documents required by different agencies and to expedite the process. FDA estimates that with this system the review of documents will be 30% faster than with the ACS system. The purpose is to prioritize the resources of FDA towards products that represent a greater risk to public health.
